Importance of artificial Intelligence and its uses

Artificial Intelligence is a term that contains these words Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Predictive Modeling, Autonomous Systems and so on. All these terms are present in the science fiction book ‘Terminator’. Basically, AI is intelligence displayed by machines that surpass it and it consists of both hardware and software. The real world applications of artificial intelligence and its use are not yet clear in our daily life but the future will only be more interesting. We won’t be seeing robots that look like humans anymore, we won’t see them replacing people and they even won’t change their jobs soon. However, there are still various ways to create a superintelligence that has all its own goals and objectives. It includes using Artificial Neural Networks or Convolutional Neural Networks etc, Deep Learning or Convolutional Neural Networks etc, RNNs or Restricted Boltzmann Machines as well as neural networks or recurrent ones.

One important thing is to distinguish between artificial intelligence and machine learning. In artificial intelligence, the machines can think like humans but it doesn’t mean the same as machine learning. Machine learning is an area where machines learn from examples with some human elements in that there are no pre-programmed rules. When we train a neural network then the number of parameters increases with time. So if you have 50,000 pixels in your neural network then its size is also increased. This means that data scientists can now analyze the data and understand which features are important for the model. For example, when I look at images, my mind automatically detects shapes but when I apply this knowledge to text data then it suggests words that I would find suitable.

Let’s take the example of face detection, let’s say I want to recognize someone’s face in any given image and as you know our brain detect these patterns in such a way that we can identify our friend. Image recognition is one of the most popular tasks that you can do. There are various algorithms that can detect patterns and use that information to predict what part of the image you want to watch next.

Another important application is object detection and here we can easily identify certain objects in a picture as well as find out what parts of the picture you are interested in. You can use computer vision or any program that can detect certain things in your pictures. In case of autonomous vehicles then we can develop self-driving cars that can detect obstacles in any image that we put before it and also avoid accidents.

To illustrate how powerful deep learning is, let’s consider a recent news story in 2016 about Google’s AlphaGo playing Dota 2 against professional players. The main reason behind it was DeepMind used Deep Learning techniques and it did win 3 matches (2 losses) against the best teams in a row. However, the best part is you didn’t even hear it. Your phone just showed up your last match and in few seconds everything changed for the better. Although many tried to explain the importance of Deep Learning but sometimes you need to believe that it is possible. Let’s take another famous figure to give you another perspective. Garry Kasparov had always been fascinated by chess and he liked to play it for years. One day, he decided to start playing against computers. The difference is, his first opponent was IBM Watson. Afterward IBM Watson defeated him within 6–8 moves. Later against the European team also he lost but against the US Chess champion Garry Kasparov he made history by winning the World Championships. What makes that amazing is that even if he lost that match because of different reasons that were later revealed during their collaboration but he went back to win those championship. Nowadays chess is considered as the greatest game in the world and it’s easy for anyone to enjoy it. This also indicates how smart machines are compared to chess players. If you look at the video below, you can clearly see the difference between the two teams. In chess, every player plays the same method based strategy. But with the help of programming computers we can make each player follow a particular approach based strategy, however, with the help of Deep Learning or CNNs we can design this algorithm based strategy into different shapes.

Let’s now compare artificial intelligence and business applications of technology. Some of the common industries that make huge investments in developing a new system and the application of artificial intelligence include healthcare, retail, manufacturing, banking, defense and aerospace and law. On the other hand, some smaller sectors including education, transportation, food processing, energy, transport, communication, mining, distribution, entertainment, public safety, agriculture, and logistics also benefit from the invention of artificial intelligence. These industries are also affected by automation and the introduction of drones.

So how does our company benefit from artificial intelligence? First, Artificial intelligence provides solutions for emerging problems such as predictive analytics, natural language generation, voice and speech recognition, object detection, emotion analysis, fraud detection, social media sentiment generation and recommendation systems, etc. Secondly, artificial intelligence helps us solve more complex problems more efficiently than the traditional methods of solving issues in a more efficient and effective manner. Lastly, artificial intelligence increases productivity, reduces costs and improves efficiency by taking care of processes that are too expensive and tedious to do manually.

To conclude, Artificial intelligence is an exciting development in our lives. No matter what problems we encounter in the world today, artificial intelligence has the solution for it. As we use the artificial intelligence in many different areas, it seems intelligent and it helps simplify our everyday tasks. There is an argument that artificial intelligence may lead humanity into a futuristic society where innovation, creativity, and inventions will go hand in hand. Although there is some confusion surrounding artificial intelligence, we need to understand the fact that there are plenty of benefits that artificial intelligence can provide us.
